PLATO

The Education Watchdog

PLATO's 2007 New Year's Resolutions

We resolve to continue the fight against OBE and especially against Leveling.

We resolve to tell everyone what Professor Andrich has said about the invalidity of Leveling.

We resolve to ensure that students and parents understand our position on levels: Leveling is all an artificial, flawed and meaningless process, that we will engage in once or twice a year, only when forced to do so by education bureaucrats and the school administration. Therefore:

We will continue to inform parents and the general public about the serious flaws in OBE and Leveling, via personal contact, the new media and the political process.

We will provide authentic and useful feedback, using numerical marks, letter grades, written comments, verbal corrections and suggestions, and direct contact with parents.

We will be vocal, professional and honest in staff meetings, when issues of assessment, OBE and Leveling are raised.

Our overriding concern will be for our students and their parents, not for our so-called superiors, their image or their political aspirations, nor for any brownie points we might achieve by endorsing a flawed and invalid assessment process.

We resolve to bring true teacher representation to the WA College of Teaching, by campaigning for, and electing, the PLATO-endorsed candidates.

We resolve to maintain the PLATO website and its discussion forum as a source of education news, information, research findings, discussion and debate, open to all educators, parents and students.
